The past couple months have been hotter than usual around our parts. Yes, I know it's summer, but after spending the last 4 years in San Diego (a place where the weather's pretty much perfection year-round), I'm just not used to this kind of heat. It's too warm to have the kids outside for any extended period of time, which has left this mama racking her brain for indoor activities to keep them entertained.

One thing my kids never tire of is arts and crafts. Being a crafty girl myself, this has my heart bursting with pride. It's a great way for them to boost their creativity as well as express their feelings without words. I literally can't say enough good things about the arts.

Anyway, as most of y'all know, I'm still unable to drive after breaking my ankle. This means that on weekdays we're rarely able to get out and attend activities in the community. But you better believe that as soon as Friday rolls around, I'm scouring the internet for fun things to do over the weekend! And well, recently, I was alerted about a free event that looks super cool!

This month, in GapKids stores across the country, they're creating a series of special art projects by Merrilee Liddiard of Mer Mag. At this event, your kids will be able to express their creativity doing everything from geometric masterpieces on canvas using paint and tape to colorful, custom journals. Best of all, these projects were inspired by the GapKids and babyGap fall collection, which you can get a sneak peak of in the video below.

If you live in the D.C. area, you can check out the upcoming Shine On Saturdays event this Saturday, August 25th from 10am-1pm at:

GapKids at Pentagon
1100 S. Hayes St.
Arlington, VA 22202
