Kiddo Style: Buying Stylish Basics on the Cheap

I get a fair amount of compliments on how I dress my kids, so today I thought I'd share a tip on how I put their outfits together. First, you must know that we're a single-income family, so, while I like to dress my kids well, it has to be done so on the cheap. This means I stick to places where I can find quality pieces at a good price.

One of my very favorite places to get basics for my kids is Old Navy. I don't like their outfits to be too matchy matchy, so I tend to go for cute pieces that can be interchangeable with most other items in their closet. For Nico, this means I lean towards solids and stripes. And for Lola, well, I pretty much follow the same rule, with the occasional polka dot print thrown in for good measure. It really makes for a much more diverse and functional wardrobe.

This past weekend I hit up Old Navy's Kids & Baby Sale, and man, did I luck out! I had a $75 gift card, so my total out of pocket cost for all of this was only, like, 25 bucks! No, seriously. There may have been a jump kick involved during checkout.

On top of the t-shirt & jeans pictured above, here's what Nico made out with:

And here's what I picked up for Lola (along with the romper pictured above + a pair of star print leggings that are currently in the wash):

See? I wasn't lying about my love for all things stripe-y and polka dot-y! Old Navy's prices are always on point, but this sale? Was on another level. I think the most I payed for any one item was 12 bucks. Not too shabby, right? And see how everything is a fairly neutral piece? All of these items will look good alone or paired with something else they already have (i.e. colored jeans, jeggings, a jean jacket or hoodie, etc.).

It's amazing that I only walked out with this stuff, considering I loved pretty much everything they tried on (and there was a lot). In fact, I may have gone back the next day and picked up a couple more things for Lola. I mean, how could I not when they're practically giving these clothes away!

If you're looking to spruce up your kid's spring wardrobe, be sure to check out Old Navy's Kids & Baby Sale going on (in stores and online) now through February 20th!
